Wheel Balancer Accessories

Often undervalued in terms of importance, and all too often utilised in the wrong way by equipment suppliers, balancing accessories represent a very important consideration when purchasing a wheel balancer.

Many vehicle manufacturers insist on certain bespoke adaptors that have been proven to provide the best balancing results for their vehicles. At Hofmann Megaplan we are not only factory qualified by leading balancing authority and manufacturer of such adaptors, Haweka, to advise on these specific applications, but we also provide the training to a much more advanced level. These kits are available individually for manufacturer specific applications, or we can also provide a universal set to enable a regular tyre shop meet these approvals, and therefore legitimately handle the work for local dealerships and meet their dealer audit requirements.

The Quickplates

Revolutionising the way we balance wheels, these plates earn their title due to the speed and simplicity in which they are used. Covering no less than 32 vehicle manufacturer approvals, these plates incorporate a gear mechanism to enable simultaneous adjustment of the ‘fingers’ to the desired PCD setting. These fingers are then locked off by a simple twist of the locking mechanism at the rear of the plate. A selection of ‘finger ends’ are supplied to cater for varying stud hole sizes and shape. Perfect results at the fraction of the time it takes with traditional plates!

It is important to remember that balancing accuracy is dependent on the quality of the rim. The advent of cast alloy rims, as opposed to pressed steel rims, introduced a degree of inaccuracy around the centre hole that can contribute heavily to balancing problems; and it therefore becomes more appropriate to mount the wheel by the stud holes. Secondly, a classic trick by equipment suppliers is to sell a wheel balancer without any adaptors, and without asking any questions or providing any advice. This way, they make the initial sale look cheap, and when the customer finds out he needs additional balancing cones or plates, they become a very attractive ‘captive market’.

Finally, it has to be said that with the best will in the world, most equipment suppliers wouldn’t even be able to provide such advice. Why? Because you have to be seriously dedicated to wheel balancing theory to be able to advise which is the best way to balance a particular wheel, or advise on the vehicle or rim manufacturers recommendations. At Hofmann Megaplan we have this knowledge, and we don’t think that any other wheel balancer supplier could match this claim. Ultimately, there are a huge array of adaptors, ranging from ‘wire wheel’ kits for classic applications, to dealer specific packages to meet OEM standards (some of which are mandatory). However for a more universal situation, here are our two best selling kits.
